According to a post on her verified Facebook profile, Tina Turner, the dynamic rock and soul singer who climbed from modest origins and endured a famously brutal marriage to become one of the most well-known female performers of all time, has reportedly passed away.
She was 83 years old.
Turner, a captivating live singer, and her abusive and dominating husband Ike Turner enjoyed a series of R&B singles in the 1960s and early 1970s until she fled their Dallas hotel room with 36 cents.
She struggled for years with her solo career until staging a remarkable return in 1984 with her multi-platinum album “Private Dancer” and its No. 1 song, “What’s Love Got to Do With It.”
