A federal court ruled on Friday that Donald Trump will go on trial for allegedly keeping classified military secrets at his Mar-a-Lago resort on May 20, 2024, which is after the majority of presidential primaries have ended.
Judge Aileen Cannon of the U.S. District Court appeared to compromise between the prosecution’s demand for a trial date in December 2023 and President Trump’s demand to push back the trial until after the November 2024 election.
Trump, who is running for re-election, already has a criminal trial scheduled for March in New York on separate state charges of falsifying company records in connection with a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.
