Sheila Oliver, the lieutenant governor of New Jersey, has reportedly been admitted to the hospital for an unidentified medical condition.
Oliver is serving as acting governor while the state’s democratic governor, Phil Murphy, is out of the country.
According to a statement released on Monday by Murphy’s spokesman Mahen Gunaratna, Oliver, 71, was hospitalized to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston and is now unable to carry out her duties as acting governor.
In accordance with the state law, Senate President Nicholas Scutari will temporarily fill in for her as acting governor.
Gunaratna has not revealed any further information about Oliver’s condition while she is seeking medical attention.
Since 2018, Oliver has been the state’s second lieutenant governor.
